Highlights of Exile Island at West Edmonton Mall on February 26, 2016.

On February 26 the Children’s Wish Foundation and six teams from a diverse mix of Edmonton’s business and community groups did some serious wish granting at the 6th annual Exile Island at West Edmonton Mall.  This popular event, full of friendly competition,  created memorable and magical moments, and achieved the ultimate goal of making dreams come true for children from Edmonton and area.

Major sponsor The Bear's Paul Brown Show spent the day with Wish Child, Hudson. It was a real treat to have them participate.

Teams showed incredible enthusiasm for the event and tackled mental, physical, and team building challenges.  The Brave Hearts arrived in their Scottish regalia and brought with them a bagpiper to show everyone they were there to play!

Not to be outdone, the Mighty MOOS, dressed in black, white and glamour red, rocked the Twitterverse with 113 tweets during the competition.

We had big plans for our Tribes.  They covered the mall like a blanket with all new challenges for 2016.  Kiehl's hosted a special prize draw and photo booth challenge, golf balls were rolled through pvc pipe for Pipeline Drive, Old Spaghetti Factory overloaded Tribe members with delicious spaghetti and sauce to be eated as fast as possible.

Cineplex opened their arcade for a gaming challenge and Tribes raced through the Crystal Labyrinth Mirror Maze with the fastest time being 41 seconds.  The two most talked about challenges were Hungry, Hungry Hippos, the lifesize version of the popular children's game and Human Curling which took place at the Ice Palace with all the Tribes at once and all volunteers there to cheer them on.

Wish children Eric, Sarah, Hudson, Sydney, Heather & Joel spent the day competing right alongside their Tribes and rumour has it, they had the time of their lives.

Top fundraising honours went once again to the Brave Hearts, a team returning to Exile Island for the second time! They took home the Golden Immunity Idol award, having raised more than $13,000!

As the challenges wrapped up, it became clear that the Mighty MOOS accummulated the most challenge points and was presented with the Ultimate Survivor Award.  The Fire is Life Spirit Award was awarded to Brave Hearts and SpiderMable's Wish Granters were recognized with the Tribal Council's Choice.

The 6th annual Exile Island event raised over $40,000.  We offer our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors West Edmonton Mall, The Bear Radio, Zest Corporate Adventures, Kiehl's, Ice Palace,Crystal Labyrinth,  Cineplex Xscape Arcade, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Leven Creative, River City Events, and Rayacom Print & Design.  And finally, thank you to all the teams, volunteers and wish families who took part.  It was a glorious day for wish granting!

Exile Island is Edmonton’s most unique fundraiser.  It challenges teams to compete in a day of mental and physical challenge, all with a goal of granting wishes to children diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Each Tribe of ten castaways compete against one another to see which Tribe will win the most challenge points and which Tribe will raise the most money.  Best of all, each Tribe will work together to grant a special child’s most heartfelt wish!
